A new app that helps savvy international travelers bypass the customs line made its debut in Atlanta in August.
Just a few months earlier, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport had installed passport kiosks to streamline the re-entry process, but the free Mobile Passport app cuts even more line time by allowing travelers to fill out questions about their trip on their smartphones and submit to U.S. Customs and Border Protection before arrival, along with a “selfie.” They receive a barcoded receipt back from CBP to present at the counter.
The app’s progress will be discussed at the Airports Council International North America annual summit in Atlanta, where Hartsfield-Jackson General Manager Miguel Southwell will speak on a panel about using digital technologies to improve airport customer service.
Mobile Passport is available on Android and iOS devices. It does not replace the need for a physical passport.
